Garden Scene- Mixed Media

There are some dies that I like so much that I can't stop imagining different ways and scenarios where I can use the die-cut, mainly in card making and occasionally in other projects. I love intricate die-cuts. They conjure up images of intricately carved elements of old temple walls, mosque windows (one of the famous ones is in my hometown- Ahmedabad) and Gothic churches.

Today's project is one such example. I got a new die Spellbinders- Botanical Swirls. It is an expandable pattern die and is larger (~4" x 6") than A2 cardsize. The flourishes are very beautiful and reminded me of a garden scene. So, instead of a card, I decided to use it to create a sort of mixed-media project.

I have not explored mixed media world before. This will be the first time and you might be able guess that by the look of the project which even though has more 3D elements still retains a feel of a card-front. :) Nonetheless, I like that I could add all the little natural elements I wanted to add including a heart which yearns for such beautiful and peaceful garden with birds, butterflies and flowers around!

I added texture paste, diecut leaves from Spellbinders' Sprigs Die and used dryer sheets for texture on the background after applying gesso. With Gelatos I colored them in metallic colors like citron and coral. I then adhered the main botanical diecut which I had colored with watercolors and sealed with gel medium and jazzed up with clear glitter.

Birds and butterflies are from a die mentioned below and flowers and the heart are created with punches. I added and tied stamped small tags. I further embellished with pearls, silver and brown embroidery floss, liquid pearls, and glossy accent (on the heart).

I struggled to capture the true colors in posted photos of this project. I tried multiple angles and settings, finally I achieved the best I and my camera could by having a white backdrop. In reality, colors are more subtle and pleasant than what is seen here.

I was inspired by major colors- a sort of muted coral and citron. I have used them in the background. All other colors in the image are scattered over in the form of butterflies, birds and leaves and bright red of her shoes in the heart.
