Love Forever- Ginkgo Leaves

A few weeks ago I visited Biscayne National Park, FL. The visitor center had an nationally-touring exhibition of art quilts made on environment and global warming theme. Among many, I liked this beautiful quilt with vibrant color combination which reminded me of beauty of Ginkgo leaves. With that in mind, I wanted to create something involving those leaves. I made this pastel painting at first.

When I saw "One Stamp, Many Ways" challenge from Simon Says Stamp, it gave me ideas on using my Ginkgo leaves stamps.

I wanted to create a delicate card using vellum with Ginkgo leaves stamped in green-yellow colors and wet embossed in subtle colors i.e. white/pearl/clear on it and fixing that vellum on a background card-stock that show all those images. Something like a fine woven veil over a solid background.

Here is the result. I used three Ginkgo leaves stamps and prepared vellum piece by wet embossing with pearl embossing powder and stamping same images in white, gold and greens. While selecting a background card-stock, I realized that white cardstock was not doing justice. I tried different shades of blues, greens and yellows and finally decided to color the vellum piece itself with light blue on back side. I tried coloring with distress ink first which did not create intended effect. I, then, colored it with a light blue- IB2 Spectrum Noir marker which helped make images in front pop out well. I decided to create a window panel with colored card-stock. I liked the green + shinny tones of the card and wished my life and world around me be green- evergreen and shinny like it. So, I thought of a matching sentiment- "Love Forever". Lastly, I added cut leaves and a stitching border in gold.
